ABOUT DALLAS JONES
Dallas Jones is the first African American to achieve the honor of ranking #1 nationally in the sport of U.S. Archery. He has accumulated over 35 medals and trophies from local and national archery tournaments. Currently a member of the USA Archery Regional Dream Team, where he receives additional intensive training, Dallas is moving swiftly towards his dream of progressing to the USA Archery Junior Dream Team where a select group of American archers are prepared for competition worldwide, including for the Olympics. In a sport that requires physical, mental and emotional discipline, Dallas Jones has displayed mastery skills and is making waves in the fine art of target archery.
Dallas was introduced to archery in the basement of a Brooklyn, NY public school by his now coach, Larry Brown. Coach Larry Brown, former Head Coach of Columbia University's Women's Archery team, developed a free program designed to give lower income youth an outlet for discovering, exploring, and learning the sport of archery. Coach Brown's introduction of this program has benefited many youth over the years and has offered families good and safe options of activities for children. This archery program opened up a world that Dallas naturally fell in love with. Now that he is in the archery world, he is aiming for the Gold.
Dallas lives in Brooklyn, NY with his mother, Quianna Lawrence. When Quianna learned about Coach Larry Brown's free archery program, the young educator working with high school advanced placement programs in New York City thought that she would give it a try. Like many single parents, Quianna was looking for an affordable program that would teach Dallas a skill and contribute positive values towards the development of his character. Little did she know that she was embarking on something that would be so transformative in both of their lives and set Dallas on a journey to the Olympics.
When asked, "What do you want from archery?", Dallas unequivocal response is, "To win Gold at the Olympics." Dallas has made history, but he is not resting on his laurels. His incredible journey continues.
